This may be a weird request but is there any simple firewall with a blinking icon to indicate network activity? I would prefer a non hips firewall, the constant prompts are just too annoying.

I've used Windows firewall with GlassWire for that, but decided it wasn't really worth it outside of noticeably metered networks. *Oh wait, blinking tray icon... So not overall data traffic. I always used Process Explorer or Process Hacker running as admin to do that. You can make a scheduled task to avoid UAC prompts.
