    Hi,

    I manually update Firefox. Do I still need to keep Mozilla Maintenance Service installed and tick the option use a background service to install updates in Firefox?

    Best Wishes,
    Amit

    As Cudni said, it's up to you - many choose not to use this. If you choose not too use this Mozilla widget, disable the service as well. You can also uninstall.

    Under T-Bird, Tools > Options > Advanced > Updates Tab > uncheck > background service. Not needed.

    @Cudni and @siljaline
    From the link I can see that this service is for UAC. And I don't have that in my XP. So I don't need the service at all. Thanks a lot for clearing that up guys.:thumb:

    No I don't have thunderbird installed.

    Oh my! That's pretty scary. I've never uninstalled anything in safe mode before. I rarely went safe mode. Only ran MBAM a few times there. Do you think I should absolutely uninstall it in safe mode? Would uninstalling normally from Control Panel not work?:(

    I've uninstalled it both through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and using Revo Uninstaller with no problems whatsoever.

    UAC doesn't really come into play unless your settings are elevated. Mozilla put those services there for Joe users, disable as you see fit.

    ~ For those following this ask Mozilla directly if unsure. ~

    Okay I've uninstalled the service using the normal Control Panel. Everything seems fine.

    Thanks everyone for helping me out.:D:thumb:

    Your most welcome, while I'm a relative Mozilla newbie, I try to lend a hand where I can.
