Quoting the words of one reader: "In this world of digital telecommunications it’s become increasingly easy for ISP’s to collect data. I think the danger is that while Mozilla’s relationship with Google is well known, they would certainly be in danger of losing trust across the internet if it was felt that they were providing too much user data to Google."

    It is an option to:
    1. Not do it at all
    2. Check against a downloaded static list
    3. Check dynamically with Google
    4. Check dynamically with some other site

And it has been there for some time; not new, folks.
