Earlier, when I was on FF, this message popped up saying that Java Deployment toolkit 6.0.180.7 cause distability and security problems. so i clicked restart button..is that ok? but that time, i had 2 tabs open in 1 browser so i just clicked the X button for both of them and the new browser didn't pop up. i had to click on FF icon again. am i still ok?

    Hi :)

    Got It Too!

Can't remember what website I was on :doubt:
But I just clicked my Home button - & - Then clicked the Restart button.

    If You Click...
    Menu
    Tools
    Add-Ons
    Plugins
    Scroll Down The List....
And you should see that the Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.180.7 has been disabled ;)

    sooflymani and Zeena,

The reason why you saw that warning prompt is because Java's new version is 6.0.200.2 so your Firefox browsers have an old version installed.

You can get the new version 2 ways: Free Java Download (auto installation) or Java Downloads for All Operating Systems (manual installation).

Watch out for any toolbar prompt (I believe it's Bing) while installing!

Apparently Mozilla has "blocklisted" all versions of the tool except for the very latest one, just out, 6.0.200.2. Even 200.0 is no longer usable.

    Hi JRViejo :)

To Be Honest! .. I'm starting to get a little confused with all this Java stuff

    Java .. This - That - The Other! o_O

    Normally!
    Java updates on my computers.
And then Java just seems to apply itself to my Firefox too :D
    However!
The last Java update that I got ( Think! - Java 6 Update19 ) failed on both my computers o_O
This suggests to me.. It was a problem Java end - Not Mine!

But this.. Java Development Tool :doubt:
    What is it exactly?
    Do I actually need it?
If Java successfully updates me with the new Java 6 Update 20 ... Will I automatically get the new Java Development Tool too?

    Thanks In Advance!

Remember the good old days when java was a good cup of coffee? I'm with Zeena. What's really necessary and do I need v600.200.2 if I have .190?:doubt:

You do as the latest Java fixes the vulnerability issue in prior version.

Zeena, I believe you mean the Java Deployment Toolkit?

Simply put, this is just a needed Firefox plug-in to be able to see Java content on Web sites that the browser can not render internally.

Yes, once you update Java to the newest version, you should see both the Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.200.2 & Java Platform SE 6 U20 in FF's Add-ons Plugins section.
