As has been mentioned elsewhere, if you want to stick with 3.0 rather than go to 3.5 yet, don't try to get 3.0.12 via "check for updates". That'll simply jump you right to 3.5, which Mozilla is pushing strongly despite its many problems. Instead, get it from Tom's link (probably available elsewhere too) and over-install it.

So you guys would suggest using 3.0.12 over 3.5? Why?

What would be the rationale for preferring 3.0.12 over the current version?

Dregg Heda & Pinga, this is Mozilla's official statement regarding version 3.0.12:
On the Portable Drive front, some USB drives can't handle 3.5, mainly because of their size capacity/ inferior chips and can't take the reads & writes that the new 3.5 version requires. Of course, buying a better brand name drive solves that problem, but some people around the world don't have the money to do so. That's why I posted the link to the Portable version.

For today's desktops or laptops, there is no compelling reason to stay with 3.0 IMO. I have a 4 year old rig and 3.5 works brilliantly. I say switch... Now!
