Was just going to post this, about other Time Outs, when I saw your post!

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,12603918~mode=flat

Glad it is working, guess I better try that too!

The only other thing I heard is modem problems, hope not, knock on wood, cross my fingers and wish on a star!

    Cheers!

    A couple of other things?

Are you using a large Host file like HpGuru's? If you are; Did you disable in services.msc the DNS Client?

Another possiblity if you haven't disabled the DNS Client try flushing your DNS cache

Start -> Run -> Type cmd

then enter ipconfig /flushdns (there's a space between ipconfig and /) press enter.

You see a message if it was successful ... something like Flushed DNS Successfully

That's right ... you'll see it now displays 'bolded' and instead of saying 'default' it will say "User Set" ... that's right.

I've got that! Bolded and User set! Maybe I toggled it on and off by accident before? :doubt: So it must have 'shipped' as false by defaulto_O
PS> Thanks for all your help!

That's good, I'm Glad. :) Let us know how it's going in about 1/2 an hour. ;)

If none of that clears it up ... I'd try uninstalling and re-installing FF.

Reinstalled FF and getting the errors/timeouts worse than ever! Next step? Go back to v 1? Service provider prob? Reinstall again and delete and start new profile? I'm a bit stumped here! :doubt:

    bigbuck,

Have you tried having a look at what is going on from a simple network point of view ?
I don't know what your background is and if looking a packet dumps is a good or a bad thing to suggest... but its probably worth a try

Download ethereal and winpcap, set it up to capture for 30 mins and do what you normally do, then have a look at what has been captured. You should see your DNS request leave your client and get some sort of error back again.... and then have a look at what else was going on at that time

NB: I am also having some funny firefox issues myself which I haven't bothered trying to diagnose yet and I am fairly sure it was some attempted tuning gone slightly wrong...

    Well I've;
Uninstalled 1.01, reinstalled 1.01, got timeouts, uninstalled 1.01, deleted profile, reinstalled 1.01, got timeouts, uninstalled 1.01, installed 1.0, got timeouts, uninstalled 1.0, reinstalled 1.01, got timeouts! Checked my provider's (Bigpond) website- no probs, phoned my provider and there are 'some probs', spoke to tech support and he said the probs would not cause the timouts, just pages slow to load! And the killer....they don't support FF....only IE....and the bit of genius advice from Bigpond...yes Bigpond!...."turn your firewall off!" Wonders never cease!

You'll be needing the "ethereal" part of "ethereal and winpcap"
Winpcap are drivers that allow ethereal to do the work...

    Thanks you guys! :D

  19. When you say you reinstalled, did you reuse your profile?
Some people have problems when they play with 'firefox speed tweaks', or the profile is corrupted etc.

If you already tried with a new profile and still have a problem, then it's not a problem in firefox.

I deleted the profile when I uninstalled FF the second time....

Okay if using a new firefox app, with a new profile you still have problems, it probably due to something else.

Either ISP problem, or some conflict of software.

Do you have the same problems with other browsers?

Hey Woofer! Interestingly, here's that network.dns on a fresh install......it must ship as 'false' by default!
