I did some fresh distro testing. The results be here. Behold, a short review of Fedora 37 Workstation Gnome edition, covering only the live session experience and no subsequent install or testing, including look and feel, fonts, UI ergonomics, efficiency and consistency, display scaling, customization using Gnome Tweaks and various extensions, performance and responsiveness, some other observations, and a bit more. Yes, I know Fedora 38 has been released. We shall do that soon. Party on. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/fedora-37.html Cheers, Mrk
I like the idea of Fedora(*) with KDE(**). (*) because Fedora, with its 6 month release cycle, promises updated firmware and apps; and the internal updater, as far as I read in their forums and as far as you stick with the official repositories (including RPM Fusion) gives a stable experience. (**) because it also updates frequently with new features and tweaks and that matches Fedora nicely.
Install Fedora Budgie 38. You'll get a usable desktop, sane defaults and the GNOME stack and related applications without too much effort. Bring in Plank to install apps that can't be pinned/dropped to the default menu, add Panther Launcher to it to give you a launcher and you're done.
