This has been going on for a couple of years at least. I remember the last time I was in an airport seeing all of the people sitting there trying to grab seats to plug in their phones and thinking that there was no way they were considering the risks of doing so. Being infected of having your device damaged from too much voltage (intentional in most cases.)

Otherwise known as: juice jacking. Would never charge my phone anywhere but at home or car, with my own cables.

I still have it. Years ago i bought a carry-about portable charge thingy the size of a pack of cigarettes at a Flea market. The thing also still works. Comes in handy if in a pinch yet i rarely ever use it now.

I don't know why some marketeer doesn't mass produce them. At the time it wasn't much but boy that thing carries the juice for awhile and recharges via USB.

My Nokia dumb phone has a USB port, so technically I could carry my own charger.
