Worked on a friends PC, which had 88 GB of junk/temp files, when I got it, the case fan, would speed up & down, rhythmically. Next I did chkdsk c: /r (approx 9 hrs), after that the fan was smooth & steady, & did not speed up. I was kind a dumbfounded by this, any ideas why chkdsk cured?

Same machine did all kinds (HMP, MBAM, RK, 360total, ADW) of malware scans & malware free.

I noticed after all this, every few seconds, the mouse pointer would go from pointer to hour glass, with out, doing anything. How could i determine, easily who's causing this, other than disabling startups one by one, and it might not even be a startup

    Thanks
    Rico

    Hello Rico:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96938-check-disk-chkdsk-read-event-viewer-log.html contains procedures for retrieving the results of chkdsk if the Event Logs have not been erased. That chkdsk log might quantify how much may have been repaired.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html contains procedures for obtaining the HDD's current S.M.A.R.T. attribute values. Check the most critical attributes for hints.

Depressing Ctrl-Shift-Esc and go to the Processes tab to watch what may be occurring when you see the hourglass icon as it happens.

Please let us know what you find. Best wishes to you. :)
