So let me get this straight, there was a fake ad which said a software upgrade for iOS will make your smartphones become wateproof, while the waterproof-ness of a gadget relies upon hardware and requires certain certificates, and there are people who fell to it while they're supposed to know about that fact since the first place?

    Am I overestimating people's intelligence here? o_O

Yes, people's IQ varies by the hundreds. You can't really generalize, especially with wannabe exclusive fanboys.

A lot of us would know that a software update etc would NOT prevent that happening, but Many out there would be taken in ! So knowing that, the person/s responsible for this are nasty ~snipped as per TOS & deserve something bad happening to them, SOON.

This must be joke, if not God preserves those sheep who tried their iPhone's water-resistance. I'm afraid of day when somebody announces that updating to iOS7 let you fly like a bird ... just jump out of your window with your iPhone updated to iOS7 and you will fly ... :D

On a similar note, related to flying, there is an app that will help you land a real-life aircraft in case of engine-out emergency. It will tell you exactly how to move the stick and guide you right onto the runway.

Airplane mode transforms the iPhone into an aircraft that you can fly on. Now who's willing to try it out?

It is a mean trick to play on people who aren't as cynical, paranoid & unbelieving as us though. ;)

Surely only iPhone users would be stupid enough to fall for such a trick.

I think using a common sense would be enough. ;)

I'd really lose faith in (some of) humanity if that'll happen.

Thank goodness I found this thread. I was going to go diving with my waterproof iPhone straight after I finished downloading some more RAM.

Well, you know what Nietzsche said about common sense: if most people possess it, it can't be valuable, as people only value the rare. :D

USA still the best. But barely.
Too bad this had already happened. Although I feel like everyone foolish enough got what they deserved!

I mean though in a scientific study this could have further proved how idiotic iphone users are.

The pranksters could have released an Android version also. I would have bet a lot less % wise that saw the ad would have been conned.

Just like Steve Gibson's "Nanoprobe technology" ;)

Just shows how people blindly without a thought read information (be it from others, advertising) and assume it to be true/accurate/honest.

    Cheers, Nick
