Failed to read from the sector 0 of the hard disk 0

I just bought True Image 8, created image fine, but when going into restore sequence got this message: "Failed to read from the sector 0 of the hard disk 0". Clicking ignore (twice) gets me into the menu sequence, apparently correctly. However, I am afraid to proceed.
Machine is brand new HP, AMD, 150 G hard drive, with physical partitions
D: first "hidden" partition with the HP factory restore image
C: second user partition with windows XP
Could the first "hidden" partition be causing a problem?
Is there another place I should have looked for the answer to this and future questions?
