Facebook Shops: Online stores open on Facebook and Instagram
Nearly a million businesses in the UK and around the world can now set up a single online store to sell products, with no fee, on Facebook and Instagram

The stores will appear on business pages, Instagram profiles and through targeted ads.

The company has already used a no-fees approach in its Facebook Marketplace for personal classifieds.

"It's bigger than usual just because we want to make sure we're moving quickly to get these tools in the hands of as many businesses wherever they are, big or small, to help them survive during this time," Facebook's Layla Amjadi said.
The shopping feature will also eventually appear on WhatsApp and the company's other messaging apps and integrate with live streams.

And if problems arise or a buyer wants to ask questions, they can do so through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or Instagram Direct messages, some of which are already used by companies for that purpose.

Anthony Ha, a senior writer at technology news site TechCrunch, said the pandemic lockdown may have worked in Facebook's favour.

"After all, if your favourite store has changed their hours, or switched to online delivery or kerb-side pickup, they've almost certainly posted about it on Facebook or Instagram," he said.
"So it makes sense for Facebook to make the purchase process as easy as possible from those profiles.

Shares of Facebook reached an all-time high of $230.75 on Wednesday, soaring as much as 6.4%, with Wall Street being bullish on the company’s focus on e-commerce.

The social media giant announced Facebook Shops on Tuesday, which will make listing products to Facebook and Instagram easier. The stock ended the day up just over 6%.
Investors rallied on Facebook’s announcement, with Morgan Stanley writing in a note Wednesday that this could make Facebook a competitor to Amazon and Alphabet’s Google. Shops also presents itself as a multibillion dollar opportunity, the analysts wrote.

AB Bernstein said in a note to clients early Wednesday that Facebook Shops could unlock a $1.3 trillion market.

“We have long viewed FB as the ‘rent’ to the digital economy and a core component of the online retail ecosystem,” the analysts wrote.

I think this is a very smart move, seems like Facebook is trying to become a competitor to just about everyone, strange that they didn't do this earlier. I can see Facebook Dating and Facebook Shops becoming succesful.

Facebook's e-commerce push saw the debut of Facebook Shops in May, designed to help small businesses sell their products online. The social networking giant also promised at that time to launch a similar experience on Instagram this summer.
Today, Instagram announced Shop, which comes in the form of a small button in the Explore tab for finding and buying things in a single hub.

While Shop remains a new destination in Explore at present, Instagram plans to add a dedicated tab for that experience in the navigation bar later this year. It is available in the U.S. from today, with plans to launch it worldwide in the next few weeks.
Payments will be processed through Facebook Pay, a method launched last year to unify the payment experiences across Facebook's ecosystem.

Facebook is announcing a number of new e-commerce features both within the main Facebook app and on Instagram.

The pandemic has forced many businesses to shift online, and Facebook made a big announcement in May around the ability of merchants to create Facebook Shops that are viewable on both Facebook and Instagram. More recently, Instagram launched a redesigned Shop section, where users can browse products from their favorite brands and creators.
Now the company is bringing a similar experience to the main Facebook app.

The company said that in the United States, it’s started testing a new section called Facebook Shop — like Instagram Shop, it’s basically a shopping destination where you can find products from a variety of different businesses.

In addition, the company is announcing new tools for businesses running Facebook Shops, including new design layouts, the ability to see a real-time preview of collections, the ability to automatically create Shops if you’re a new seller and new data in Commerce Manager. Shops will also feature a new messaging option for customers to send sellers a message through Messenger, WhatsApp or Instagram Direct.

The company has also been testing a live shopping experience, where businesses can show off products in a live video, while consumers can browse the highlighted products and make purchases.

“We’ve seen live shopping take off in other parts of the world,” said Instagram’s vice president of product Vishal Shah. “The pandemic has really changed behavior from a consumer perspective, so we’re moving as fast as we can to bring out these tools to help [businesses respond].”

Facebook Live Shopping is coming to an end in favor of Reels

Facebook Live Shopping events appear to be another casualty of Meta’s shift to short-form video. According to an announcement on the company’s website, live shopping events on Facebook will retire on October 1st. The little-known feature let Facebook Business owners showcase their products in live videos to their followers — sort of like a personal Home Shopping Network. Merchants could notify their Page followers of upcoming live shopping sessions and take payments through Messenger.

In lieu of such sessions, Meta is asking merchants to consider showcasing products via Reels, Reels ads and product tagging on Instagram Reels.

“As consumers’ viewing behaviors are shifting to short-form video, we are shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s short-form video product,” wrote Meta in its post.

It’s no surprise that Meta is pushing more merchants towards Reels and Reels ads, especially given the fact that the latter reached a $1 billion annual revenue run rate in the second quarter of this year.

Facebook: Facebook Live Shopping will be going away on October 1, 2022

Beginning on October 1, 2022, you will no longer be able to host any new or scheduled Live Shopping events on Facebook. You will still be able to use Facebook Live to broadcast live events, but you won’t be able to create product playlists or tag products in your Facebook Live videos.

If you want to reach and engage people through video, try experimenting with Reels and Reels ads on Facebook and Instagram. You can also tag products in Reels on Instagram to enable deeper discovery and consideration.

Over the next few months Instagram will test a simpler and less personalized version of the shopping page known internally as "Tab Lite", the Information reported.

The company would launch a public test, starting Wednesday, on the changes to its app designed to switch users to the "Tab Lite" version of the shopping page, the report said.
