    Another reason amongst many to stop using facebook.As if the privacy issues were not enough.:gack:

    Well, a policy of not clicking on links that prompt to update, rather, getting updates from the official vendor's site, usually is a good protective measure.

    These types of prompts (fake updates) are not peculiar to Facebook. They have also been found on other social media outlets in the past, such as MySpace and Twitter; malvertising attacks on legitimate web sites; spoof of YouTube page; torrent P2P network. From 4 years ago, the infamous Koobface trick:

    Nothing much has changed with the end result: just the way the scam is delivered to the victim, hoping to entice her/him to click.
