can i use f-prot for dos on win 98 se ?

u mean that f-prot is only an on demand scanner and does not have resident protection
Correct. F-Prot for DOS has no "on access" scanning.
so how can i update f-prot
Take a look at these threads where they give details about scripts which can be used to automate the updating procedure;
F-Prot for dos has no resident protection but F-Prot for Windows does and will work nicely on just about any machine.
