With TI9 I am aware that I cannot mount or restore files from an
ext3 backup.tib when in Windows (NTFS). I can only see all the files/folders
in the folder tree inside Acronis.

Am I right in saying that the above can be done using the bootable
rescue cd ? ( Sorry - I think the answer is 'of course you can' :D )

Edit: Maybe not mount but what about restoring files ?

    Ocky:

I had an old TI 9 build 3567 rescue CD laying around, so I tried this. You cannot mount an ext3 partition but yes, restoring files from an image works. I tried one to verify, restoring the file /etc/acpi/ibm-wireless.sh from a recent backup image of my Kubuntu root partition to my /home directory on the hard disk, and it worked fine.

While in the restore wizard you can see the directory and file structure on both the original image file and on ext3 partitions on your disk, but you cannot view the contents of files.

With TI 10, you can double-click on a backup archive to explore a partition containing ext2/3 files, even while running in Windows. You can also open these files and view their contents and copy/paste from Windows, so that is a nice feature that was not available in TI9.
