    I just installed 4.0.0.172 and at the end of the installation I ticked the box to start ewido but the interface wouldn't open and when I looked in the task manager ewido.exe was using a lot of memory and very high cpu.
    I did a reboot to try again but the same problem has occurred.

    Thanks for any help!

    When did you download 4.0.0.172? There is a 4.0.0.172a now.

    http://www.grisoft.cz/softw/70/filedir/inst/ewido-setup_4.0.0.172a.exe

    Maybe some bugs are fixed. Try updating to 4.0.0.172a and see what happens.

    @Chubb

    No, I don't think that the new setup would help since it contains the same binaries as before. But in the setup itself were some bugs fixed.

    @Kaupp
    Please take a look at your ewido installation folder if there is a error.txt and/or logfile.txt

    Please attach them here if they're available.

    Please uninstall ewido anti-spyware 4.0 completely.
    Reboot your pc
    Download the latest setup (or if you still have the older 4.0.0.172 use this)
    Then reinstall ewido anti-spyware 4.0 and reboot once more.

    Now try to start ewido.

    Ok I removed 4.0 completely and installed 4.0.0.172a from the link provided by Chubb and rebooted but I got the same problem again.

    I remember now I had a similar issue with Spysweeper a few months ago and it was because Spysweeper was trying to scan my Hosts file on startup.

    I'm just wondering if this could be the cause of the problem I'm having with ewido?

    Thanks for your attention vinzenz :)

    Currently yes. I don't know anyone else who has this problem. :(

    And I'm at a loss :/

    What else security software are you using? Which OS? Which exactly version (including Service Packs)?

    hi vinzenz

    OS: Windows 2000 SP4

    My active software in taskmanager are:

    Aston.exe - shell replacement
    TrayCommander
    Jetico Bestcrypt
    Jetico Firewall

    and the usual windows processes svchost.exe etc etc

    I'm going install Windows XP later when I get home to see if I get any different results

    I'll let you know later how it goes.

    regards
