Have you tried impressive ? Damn nice and lots of fun to use.
Best to check out the website. Nice animations for pdf's, nice zoom function, also overview
    of all pages etc. etc.

    http://impressive.sourceforge.net/

    Cli usage - try this:-

    impressive -t WipeBlobs -T 2500 path_ to_ your.pdf (where -t = transition type and -T = time for
transition.) Press z for zoom, f to toggle full screen, alt+tab for overview.

    OR

Or just r/click select 'Open With' and browse to the executable.

    For images in folder:-

    vasa@vasa-desktop:~/Pictures$ impressive --nologo -t WipeBlobs -T 1200 -a 5 ~/Pictures/Backgrounds
(-a 5 = time in secs. before switching to next image)

    :D

Edit:- You will find impressive in the repos. See also pdftk - a great pdf toolkit. http://www.pdflabs.com/tools/pdftk-the-pdf-toolkit/
