    Hi!

I've been using ESS 5.0 RC1 for some time now, but three days ago I started having problems with Thunderbird 5.0. Whenever I started Thunderbird and it was checking for new mail or I manually check for new mail it got really sluggish or I even get the message that the program isn't responding.

I ran the task manager and found out that the CPU usage of ekrn.exe is ranging from 30-50 (I use a dual core CPU). After about half a minute I receive new messages and it's behaving as usual until I check for new messages again.

    any ideas?

V5 doesn't integrate with Thunderbird 5. I assume you're using an IMAP account (gmail?). If so, does disabling IMAP checking make a difference?

Have you tried disabling POP3 checking just for a test? As for gmail, I'm pretty sure they only allow secure connection over SSL. Currently SSL communication is not scanned in TB5 so there's no way ESET could affect receiving emails from gmail at least.

Well I'm confused now. I made an image of my disk. Low level formatted my drive (I was suspecting bad sectors), then restored the image, and ran a defragmentor. And for now all is running smoothly.
