    ESS4 installation problems!!!

    Hello,

Yesterday i thought i would give eset smart security 4 a try but when the installation reached the driver install part, it rolled back with the "installation ended prematurely" error.

Before running the installation i removed MSE beta, Prevx, Malwarebytes and disabled the winxp firewall. I also ran PowerTools Lite to clear any junk that may reside in the registry and manually deleted any left over program folders both in the registry and in win explorer.

I have tried the installation numerous times with winxp firewall enabled and disabled. Also i have attempted installations with LAN on and off but to no avail.

I then searched eset support and followed these instructions as outlined:-
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN406

I have attached the setupapi.log and have uploaded the install.log to megaupload as it exceeds the limit of 1.0mb.

Currently running winxp pro (sp3) with all latest updates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards.

    Hello get_it,

Did you previously have an ESET product installed? From the attached log, it looks like the Windows installer is trying to remove remnant of an ESET product while installing ESS 4.0. Try the following procedure then run your install: http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2289

    Thank you,
    Richard

Delete INFCACHE.1 file in "c:\windows\inf" folder, that should be the clue. Then try again to install ESS.

Uninstaller tool described in KB doesn't delete file infcache.1. Sometimes it is somehow corrupted and causes these types of errors. Its delete is the solution.
