Trialversion of ESS slowed down my computer dramatically. Have any of you noticed that your websites don't load completely and sometimes firewall blocks connections that should be allowed on firewall settings? Also scanning individual files is very slow, like it would scan one or 2 files in 1sec. Startup object scan took ages :( Also discovering network with DHCP in vista took almost a minute.

I'm switching from KIS7 and specs are:
    Core 2 duo e6750
    2gb ddr2
    Asus P5KR mobo
    RAID1 with 2xWestern Digital SATA2 drives
Windows Vista Business 32bit with latest updates
    ESS 3.0.551.0 trial
No other realtime protection tools installed

Download this file . Then open your ESS 3.0.551 , toggle advanced menu .

    Choose Setup -> Import/export settings .
Choose to import the ones from the xml file I gave you.

After that all you have to configure/reconfigure is your firewall settings because mine are with Automatic mode of the firewall.

    Then , perform Winsock repair:
    Repair Winsock
Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista

    Goto Start –> Run
    type cmd and click OK.
    Type netsh winsock reset
Press ENTER . Restart immediately !

N.B. ! There is a space between the commands , example netshSPACEwinsockSPACEreset
N.B. ! If you use Windows Vista , you must first run cmd as Administrator .

    Hope this helps!

no impact on system (vista) & it runs well but my scan took longer than 2.7 which concerns me. Is this to be addressed?, I also cannot find what apps are being allowed by the firewall but I am still poking around. So far I feel this is a very good security app & good job ESET...

Just a tad longer by 45 seconds, no biggee. I installed the trial on top of the beta AFTER removing my reg'd username/pw. Still waiting on updated ones to punch in to make it reg'd.

scan took 1 hour 22 minutes on 45 gigs, nod32 took much less, I'm just curious if this is being looked at?

I was on KIS and see a significant speed increase with ESS, especially for internet speeds (KIS's biggest weakness IMHO). The only thing I don't like is the lack of a behavior blocker like KIS (but in Vista, it is really scaled back, but it's still there, including a registry monitor/protector). I am still not sure about the firewall since it is Eset's first. It comes up stealth, so it is at least at good at Vista's firewall on that end, not to mention the good programs management.

thanks Hi Tech, the scan looked slow but a very nice suite, I have to see what the upgrade price is as I'm sure this will get fixed & I like the overall effectiveness...

There is actually no difference in scanning speed between v2 and v3. The difference can only be caused by different settings (e.g. enabled/disabled advanced heuristics, archive scanning, etc.)

Cleaning is actually a bit slower compared to v2 because v3 also removes malicious records from the registry.

Thanks for the tip! Firewall seems to work normally now and speed is better now! :) It took 32min to scan 119gb. Still not as fast as some of you have but ESS seems somehow more responsive and faster now! I hope formatting my HDD helps - I have heard KIS leaves so much traces that I wonder when I would have time to format and start from scratch :)
