Just got my ver. 2014 CD from Newegg. Will this key work for a ver. 8/2015 download from the Eset web site? Or do I have to install from CD and then do the upgrade?
Usually install the current CD version, then activate it, along the line sometime it will update date it's self during or after install to current ver.
You can enter the key directly into the downloaded version when it asks you to activate the program. After you enter the key and your email address, you will receive your username and password via email. You don't need to install the CD/DVD. The key allows you to use 2015 Smart Security or 2015 AV.
As Thankful wrote, download the latest version from ESET's website and activate it using the key you received after purchase to ensure that you don't install an older program version that might be on the CD.
and at renewal time, you can renew with your username+password either directly from ESET or a reseller of your choosing.
I must say that this install was a dream. All I did was enter my product key and id data and whalla, everything was activated. No user id or password required. Set up on Public profile since I connect from a D-Link WAP to my Pace router. Also everything so far was pre-configured; LiveGrid on, HTTPS scanning for port 443 on, etc.. No problems with Internet connection or connecting with Thunderbird e-mail client. And the real surprise is how unbelievably light Eset SS is on my PC. First scan running presently with zip impact on Internet or system responsiveness. Now on to tweaking the baby ....................
