What happened with ESET Tech Support ? Or you haven't contacted them yet

BTW ... Have you tried removing all your security applications first (those listed in your signature) and then reinstall ESS ... just in case

please uninstall ESS this will take 2 or 3 min in uninstalling donot restart window
after uninstall restart window and manually delete these folder and registry entries
    C OR D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESET
    C OR D:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\ESET
    C OR D:\Program Files\ESET
    AND some registry keys
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eset
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Eset
THIS WILL MAKE ESS COMPLETLY REMOVE
after these work install ESS again and if you have any Network Adapter please enable it then tell us

when deleting the registry entries also look for other AVF programs like AVG, Norton etc... they should all be in the same place...look as well in the program data, program files and apdata directories....they can prevent the install as well if ESS sees another program....also chack the status of both Windows Firewalls if on Vista...

As far as registry cleaners go, Registry Mechanic by PC Tools s another good one I have been using for years in conjuction with CCleaner...neither have let me down (XP Pro and Vista (business and ultimate)) just be sure to make RM set a restore point before correcting any issues. I let it find anything by its normal program defaults. I usually let RM run and fix until it sees no errors then the same for CC.

Registry Mechanic is not free but I think it does have an unrestricted 30 day demo...

For CCleaner, here is how I run it:

    Under the Cleaner App,
IE, uncheck Recently Typed URLs, Last Download Location and Auto Complete Form History
WE, uncheck all but Seach Autocomplete
System, uncheck Start Menu Shortcuts and Desktop Shortcuts
Advanced, uncheck all but Old Prefetch Data

    Under the Registry App,
uncheck Unused Fle Extensions and Start Menu Ordering

After that run both tools in CC and let if fix all the errors until it reports nothing to fix/delete...
