I periodically get a window which indicates that "ESET GUI has stopped working. Click to find solution online and restart, or click to restart." I cannot find any pattern as to when this happens. As a matter of fact, in this most recent case, I was away from the computer for about an hour, and when I came back it had that error.

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. No other security/malware/firewall software is installed. I am running NOD 32 Antivirus v4.0.474.0, and the Windows firewall. Windows Defender is turned off.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this or what may be causing it?

    Hello partymonkey,

When you receive the error, is the ESET icon still in the system tray area?

    Thank you,
    Richard

    Richard,
The icon is still there, but when I select "Close and restart", I see two icons on the system tray area. Now, when I hover over one of them, it goes away.
    Thanks.

I am running windows 7 profesional 64 bits and eset nod32 av 4.0.474, instalation was succefull but the icon on system tray never appears, so I tried to open the interface from programs -> eset -> eset nod32 antivirus but the same error shows up.

    Thanks.

    hi,
Win7 hides all tray icons, and put them under a special tray icon...

So what? I have a exact the same problem:

I periodically get a window which indicates that "ESET GUI has stopped working. Click to find solution online and restart, or click to restart."

Its not a problem that I can't see eset icon.
