    how do I find out what error messages mean? When I try to make an initial backup image of my pc to an external drive, I get the error message 0x70003

    What does this mean?

    Thanks

    That is a VERY good question! Let's expand that and ask for a breakdown of all the commonly occuring hexadecimal error codes into Human Readable descriptions!

    Hello jeannejj13,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    The error message you have received is a "read error" message and means that Acronis True Image failed to read some data from your hard drive.

    First of all, please check each partition of your hard drive by Windows utility:

    - For Windows 9x please use Windows menu Start\Run then enter the command "scandskw" and test all drives;

    - For Windows XP please use Windows menu Start\Run, then enter the command "chkdsk c: /r" "chkdsk d: /r" for every partition of your hard drive.

    Note that you will need to reboot your computer in order to scan the system partition.

    If that does not help then please download the latest version of Acronis drivers, install it with disabled logging and see if the problem still persists.

    If the problem still persists then enable logging by running the Acronis drivers installation package once again, reproduce the problem and collect the c:\snapapi.log file.

    Please also provide us with the following information:

    - Create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post;

    - Where do you save your image to?

    - What exact version and build number of Acronis True Image do you use?

    You can find the full version name and build number by going to Help -> About... menu in the main program window;

    - When exactly did you receive this error message?

    - Describe actions taken before the problem appears step-by-step.

    Please submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
