  1. I now get an error message "Error mdr.iq not found" after installing both spywareBlaster and MRU Blaster. I'm running windows 98 and did not get this error before installing these programs. o_O

On my other computer windows XP Pro I don't get this error after installing both spywareBlaster and MRU Blaster.

    Hi Michael,

Could you post your HijackThis log
Download, Unzip and run HijackThis. Then click Scan > Save log, save the log as a .txt file and copy & paste its content into your next post.
Don´t fix anything yet. Most of what it finds is harmless.

    Regards,

    Pieter

  3. Pieter, Thanks, but where do I download "Download, Unzip and run HijackThis" from? Guess I'm more computer illiterate than I thought.

  4. Well I found the "HijackThis" download site but it won't download for me after clicking on the "Download HijackThis
use the button for direct download " button. I even amade a new folder called "HiJackThis" and it still won't download to it.

    I'll keep trying.

    What should I do next?

The missing file "mdr.iq" doesn't seem to cause any problems that I have noticed yet.

  7. I did notice that when I went to save the HiJackThis log to a text file it wanted to save it to an old deleted proprietary software program that I used to use to run my business on that was uninstalled when I brought this computer home. It was called Helios and the file that it was looking for when I went to save it was "Helios.exe" so when it couldn't find that it saved the log to notepad instead. o_O

Helios is software that was designed to operate a tanning salon.

    Hi Michael,

My turn to apologize that it took me so long.

First, download and run RapidBlaster killer from: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/specialinfo/rapidblaster.html

Before you start with the next part, please move hijackthis.exe to a folder of it´s own. The program creates backups in the folder it is in. In a Temp folder they easily disappear.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    F1 - win.ini: load=c:\progra~1\hpoffi~1\register\remind.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mdac_runonce] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\runonce.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RapidBlaster] c:\program files\RapidBlaster\rb32.exe <= if still present

    Then reboot.
    Keep us posted,

    Pieter

  9. Thanks Pieter, I downloaded and ran the RapidBlaster killer, It did not detect any files on my computer even though they showed up in the log of HijackThis. But now I seem to have lost the HiJack this file (I never moved it to its own folder out of the temp files) and I'm afraid that now I have to down load that file again. The direc link you gave me for the "HiJackThis" is not working, but I had trouble downloading that last week, guess I'll just have to do it again! I'll let you know how I make out after I select and remove the files you suggested via HiJackThis.

  10. :D :D :D :DPieter A real BIG Thank You! I was able to redownload, unzip and install HiJackThis to its own folder. I checked the files you suggested hit fix and then rebooted. Problem solved.

This was a work computer and many people were on it on the net, many undesirable sites were viewed and I guess this caused all that spyware to get loaded on my system.

Thanks again for all you help.

    Hey Matt,

I have removed from your post the section containing the HijackThis log as we no longer do analysis for unrequested logs as stated in this Announcement. However, you will find a link in the Announcement Post to several spyware removal sites that do provide HijackThis log analysis service.

You should do a full system scan at one of these on-line antivirus sites: Free Services

Then follow up with posting your log at one of the spyware removal forums.

    Regards,

    Bubba
