Blitzblank has been discontinued. For most users it is just easier to quarantine a file manually, which will essentially use the same mechanisms Blitzblank used.

On my Windows 8.1 64-Bit machine the new EEK10 works very well, but on my Windows 8.1 32-Bit Tablet it produces three "Installation failed" Messages before the gui open. It seems that it cannot load the driver and install the service for it. No Problems with EEK9.

Do you run EEK as an Administrator, dietlmann?

    Thanks Fabian!

French locale, the update screen is truncated:
    upload_2015-6-18_12-47-22.png
Also, instead of "Signatures ne plus à jour" which is bad french anyway (should read "Signatures ne sont plus à jour"), you could state "Signatures désuètes" for instance, which is shorter.

@Fabian: Problem is solved. It is necessary to make a "real boot" (not "fast boot") under Windows 8.1 before you can run EEK from another place again.

Yes, I agree. Although it is scanning much less files than it did with Smart Scan in version 9.

Thanks, will forward it to our translator.

It shouldn't really be necessary. We will look into it irregardless.

Well, yes but those files that are scanned count for a lot more. The old "Smart Scan" essentially scanned "C:\Windows", "C:\Program Files" and "C:\Program Files (x86)". If you know anything about malware removal you will know that these folders haven't been targeted by malware for years. The vast majority of malware (well above 90%) targets the user profile to avoid elevation. So scanning your user profile folder is vitally more important than scanning any other folder is even though it only contains a fraction of the files the other locations contain.

The new "Malware Scan" takes a much, much more sophisticated approach when it comes to selecting which locations to scan and how thoroughly to scan them. Instead of 3 hardcoded folders that make up a "Smart Scan" the new "Malware Scan" uses a constantly updated list of more than 60 different locations that we have seen being used by malware over the past couple of years. So even though we end up with less files overall, the files we scan are actually a lot more relevant to make sure a system is clean.

Thank you for clarification. You've done great job with version 10. Also for peace of mind there is also a custom scan possible so users can scan whole C: drive if they want.

I should not have cleaned up the logs, but the plain old fashoned C-drive scan also seems to be faster (I remember it was around 2.50 and now is 2 minute 20 seconds). Anyone having reliable measurements of old and new scanning speeds?

It is. We managed to greatly reduce the amount of disk I/O during scans. So even if you perform the same scan with the new version, on average you will end up with faster scans compared to the old version. To give you a few numbers from my workstation:

Scanning my D drive with about 300 GB worth of files took about 11 minutes using the old engine and during the scan effectively 37 GB of data was read from the disk. The new scan engine, without reducing scan accuracy at all, finishes the same scan with the same settings in about 7.5 minutes and only reads about 1.33 GB in total.

On average we have seen about 90% less disk I/O during scans. Depending on what type of disks you are using, how many cores you have, and how fast each of your CPU cores is, that decrease can result in some huge performance increases, especially when scanning network shares for example.

Thx, Fabian this explains why it is 20% faster on simple dual core Pentium (G3240) and an old SSD (195MB/s read, 75MB/s write).

I've sent an e-mail immediately after posting this above. Still no answer from the support. :gack:
Emsisoft is the most overrated AV company in the world. Period!
