Two recent events prompted re-thinking my protection:
    - EAM trial results are impressive.
    - Avira Antivir Premium declared a primary component of Online Armor as a worm.

I'm running EAM as my primary active AV for the remainder of the trial period.

Avira Antivar Premium is completely uninstalled, since the Avira guard process can't be stopped to use it simply as a passive on-demand AV scanner. I don't want two potentially-conflicting guards running simultaneously.

    Current protection:
    - Router/SPI input protection.
    - Online Armor 4.0.0.45 Firewall I/O protection.
    - Spyware Blaster innoculation.
    - EAM active protection against virus/malware.
    - SAS and MBAM as on-demand scanners.
    - Paragon HDM 2010 Suite for partition and HD backups.

I'm going to run this combo for the remaining 3 weeks of the EAM trial period to see what shakes out.

Anyone else running EAM as primary AV?

it's a good solution, and if you have performance issues just configure it to scan on execution or execution/modification.

give it a try, see if you like it. there's a trial.

i have been using it for some weeks and it is a very good Antimalware solution. i would say it is one of the best. It is a bit heavy on ram on my laptop but very light in terms of browsing the net. I will use it as soon as my current av expires Superior :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: .

I never used it in real time, but I've used like on demand scanner and it always was very reliable. As real time scanner, it's always at the first time in all the test.

It wouldn't make my short list at this time. It is often flagged by testers as identifying to many valid programs as malware.

Had a fling with Emsisoft for sometime and have to say it was a bit heavy though:( But the detection rates were top notch:) Not recommended if you are a gamer though:ninja:

I am running only the Mamutu part of EAM, however with OA++, both in real time on one of my "older" (XP) laptops.
Working smooth and fast together without any issues.

I tried the latest version on a clean image of 64-bit W7, and I liked the GUI and the software itself, but it was too heavy for my gaming machine (as mentioned above), even though it's high-end hardware. Noticable slowdowns in most everything. If they made it lighter, it'd be a keeper.

    To set-up Avira Premium (AVP) for on-demand only . . .

1- Goto AVP's configurations. Under "General" "Security" -- uncheck "Protect files and registry entries from manipulation"
    ScrHunt01 26-Jul-10.gif

    2- Run Autoruns -- a start-up manager.

3- On Autoruns "Everything" tab, uncheck avgnt (avgnt.exe), and AntiVirService (avguard.exe).

NOTE: Optionally, you may also uncheck AntiVirMailService (avmailc.exe), , AntiVirWebService (avwebgrd.exe). However, do not uncheck ANY other Avira items because those are needed for on-demand scans.

ran pretty well on my gaming rig wen i used v4.5... not quite as fast as Avast and ESET which i had been using around the same period of time, but on par with any other solution, RAM usage really wasnt very high either.

i posted some screenshots of resource usage for EAM on this forum before somewhere and its IO read and writes are pretty low compared to other AV's i was testing, and CPU time wasn't very high either, very much comparable to other AV's.

Why not running it as your primary AntiMalware application?
Ikarus AV + Emsisoft engines make it a very reliable solution.

Still huge number of false positives :(
I like this product but I really hate FP's.
For example I scanned whole system with Comodo AV (nothing found) , Avast 5 (nothing found), MSE 2.0 (nothing found), MBAM (on demand scan found nothing also)
This morning Emsisoft Anti-Malware found 52 viruses (not traces or cookies, but files flagged as viruses)
    I mean, I would go for say 10 max. but 52 ... huh !
And that's with heuristics and riskware settings OFF.

What were the FP's? Freeware softwares or you jumped in the dark corners of the internet(keygens, cracks..)?:)

May be I am missing something here, but why not just do a custom install and un-check the guard component?

Will be testing it tonight from usability and performance perspectives. The prices that they have for India (50% off on US prices) make it a very very lucrative deal. Having almost consistently top detection rates helps too.

There were some programs I wrote in Delphi, they were not packed nor doing anything malicious.
Rest was not freeware programs but some EXE scanners , tools and plugins for them.
I have two keygens (leftovers from long time ago, never been found by other Vendors) , I think it's not the job of antivirus company to hunt them down (except if they were for their own app) because they are in 99% harmless.
I have license for Emsisoft Anti-Malware (free 1 year promo from last year with 100 days left).

Please note that I'm not bashing product, I like it, it's just too sensitive, that is the well known fact for this app. from many reviews both written or video ones, as well as comments from various forums.

All I'm saying is that maybe they should introduce some sensitivity setting which would reduce those FP numbers.
It's not cool to flag something as a virus if that's not a virus at all.
That's why I said that Comodo, Avast, MSE and MBAM didn't find those files, you can wonder why.
And because I have those files for a very long time they were not found by Kaspersky or Norton when I use those products before.

Avira as a primary AV & Emsisoft AM (on demand) is better i guess. Emsisoft has lots of false-positive. It's my opinion.

I've used a Squared as an on demand scanner since 2005, I've had a few false positives with it, but less than 4 FP's in 5 years of use. Unchecking 'scan for riskware' will cut FP's in half. All scanners have FP's so if the user is capable, I recommend double checking the files on jotti.com or with another scanner or two before deleting the file, IMO this should be done with any scanner not just Emsisoft. Its redundant for everyone to post that Emsisoft has a lot of FP's but good detection.
