Email rescanning unnecessary?

NOD32 defaults to rescanning the full email Inbox after every update. I wonder if this feature may be overkill?

Has anyone ever had NOD32 detect an infection on email rescan? Even if the answer is yes, wouldn't the infection presumably be detected realtime anyway, if and when the virus is activated?

How important do you feel email rescanning is, especially on a home system?

    Thanks.

E-mail rescanning should be useful, when the virus database is updated. So there might be some new infected e-mails that were not detected before.
