Just within the past two days this strange problem started occuring. For some reason ekrn.exe keeps jumping to 80-100% CPU usage. Now at first it seemed random but then I noticed that it seems to be triggered by working in an explorer window. Just a few moments ago I tested this idea out and it proved true. When I opened an explorer window, located a folder, and tried to change a file name ekrn.exe almost immediately jumped to ~90%. After closing the window and waiting, ekrn.exe eventually dropped down to ~0%.

    I am running ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.0.437.0
I have completely reinstalled the program

    Computer:
    Make: HP Pavilion dv5
    OS: Vista x64
Processor: 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4GB DDR2
    Video Card: 256MB nVidia
    HDD: 320GB

    Thanks in advance!

Of course, renaming files is deemed to be file modification which is when Advanced heuristics comes into play. By default, AH is enabled only for newly created & modified files as code emulation is time and resource consuming operation.
