I wouldn't bother about hiding my real IP address, actually so long as you have a firewall, you are already safe from most threats. Hiding your real IP address is optional and entirely up to the user.

I think everyone should hide their activities from their isp at all times, no matter what you are doing. There should be a law that states you have to hide your activities from your isp imo. I mean really, what godda* business is it of theirs anyway where you go on the net. I suppose I could understand if you were surfing childporn sites or doing some other illegal activities, but I mean really, get a life you nosey bastar*s. Use JAP to blind the bastar*s, that'll teach 'em. ;)

Thanks for the info and how much slower do u find your speed actually drops by, for example 20%, 50%,70%. :(
I am just curious, as I know that speed is a trade of, if u want to be secure.
I have a 1mb connection, but dont want to really drop my speed to a crawl and if this is the case, then I think I will give it a miss.

sorry Mul, i couldnt get in to Wilders' for about 15 mins. i dont know what to think. anyway, i'll try and sort it out.

JAP is about 30% slower at its quickest and about 300% slower at its slowest. it sounds worse then it is, because it is normally faster, rather then slower.

if you have system restore you should try it out, then if you dont like it you can do a restore. :) HTH

System Restore should hardly be necessary for Jap, it is only a 1MB Java .jar applet (one single file - download it from here) which does not make system changes (assuming you already have a Java Runtime Environment installed). The Windows setup includes a copy of the Java Runtime Environment making it 11MB - I'd advise getting the JRE from Sun's webpage instead since then JAP can be removed without affecting any other Java applications.

JAP's speed is variable - 2-3KB/s at its worst and 10-15KB/s at its best. Better performance can often be gained from using other mixes (Regensburg notably). This is obviously going to be slow compared to a 1Mb/s connection (which would give 120KB/s) but you have to decide which is preferable - slower access knowing that your activities are private, or instantaneous web page reloads while having your doings logged by your ISP and possibly stored for years in the future?

Note that techniques like ad-filtering, hosts file redirection and web filtering which clear the cruft now present on so many webpages will still work with proxies - so can make slower speeds more tolerable.

Yeah, same here. I like posting crap on my friends pages, but i dont want them to ban my IP. Proxy slows my PC down too much. They should get a program that can save your brandwith and your connection, and block your IP! can i get a AMEN?

I occassionally use Steganos Anonym Pro, only reeally when I use IE instead of Firfox for some reason. It tests the speed of the servers and ranks them to speed up the connection. The only problem is, I don't believe it only changes your IP address for certain things like surfing.
