What's your opinion of the best way to make an email truly anonymous?

    Hello,

You have a lot of Personal SMTP server, for instance Mail Direct Pro.
Using a personal SMTP server allows you to bypass your ISP Server : nothing in their logs about your mail : directly from you to the receiver mail server.
You may post with any address if the syntax is good, (xxxx@yyyy.zzz) false or real.

Furthermore, when running it trough a proxysocks (Cl 4 or 5) , your IP does not appear in the headers, only the proxy address. It becomes difficult to find available proxysocks for posting, a lot of ISP using DNS blackhole list against spammers

    Regards,

    Checkout,

To answer your question with another, anonymous from whom? If you wish to be anonymous to the recipient, just use a throwaway Yahoo or Hotmail account. If you wish to be anonymous to your Internet Service Provider (and possibly other TLA groups...) then you will need a specialist anonymizing remailer service which encrypts emails from your PC and routes them through multiple servers, each one stripping the email headers off.

For more on this check the PGP and Anonymous Email FAQs page. For a once-off message, the Mixmaster Interface when used in conjunction with an anonymizing proxy like JAP (to encrypt your web traffic) should be effective enough.

Now that personal SMTP servers have been mentioned, my interest is piqued. Are there any free ones recommended?

    Cheers!
