    Many thanks to Boris S. of DRW for his prompt & gracious assistance. :)

    Thanks for heads up, bellgamin.

    However, when I updated, the total number of Virus records was GREATER than than that stated by bellgamin.

    So thinking that I may have made a mistake with manually updating the zip files previously, I uninstalled, carried out a fresh install and then updated.This time the number of records was now LESS; 53,273.

    On this site; http://www.drweb-online.com/en/products.asp the number of records are 54,170 for v.4.31, while at the old main site the number of records are 9482( obviously a mistake ); http://www.dials.ru/english/

    Therefore, from the above, what should be the Total Virus Records for Dr Web?

    Mine reads 543 and Virus Base-52889. Time to put DrWeb on the backburner and replace with Vet.

    Your guess is as good as mine, Tim :D

    I thought they might have removed some OLD records from the list when updating to v4.32 but not that many.

    I have sent an email to Dr Web support for a response!

    If you have 4.31 does it update you to 4.32?

    No, you only download the virus records via the program updater. So you have to download the new version independent of the Dr Web program.

    So far I would recommend staying with v.4.31 if you have not already upgraded.

    Thanks Blackcat that is what I have been thinking too. At least wait until it is "supported" by more sites like dials.ru. sald.com doesn't even seem to mention 4.32 at this time.

    Is drweb.com the only site at this time that has 4.32 for download?

    Just heard from the CEO, Boris Sharov;

    1. "Exact figures for the virus records are 53084".

    2. The site http://www.drweb-online.com/ is not an official site for Dr Web. "The fewer number of virus records is due to a natural reduction due to the database becoming more compact and more efficient".

    The real number of viruses detected by the new base is however, greater than the old one. This is because some records cover dozens of viruses.

    3. Automatic updates will start tomorrow.

    4. The new version 4.32a, will involve changes in the updater, but will now still be called v4.32. It will be released tomorrow.

    The Head of the Dr Web support department is mike.kolyadko@drweb.com

    Concerning this problem, I sent another DrWeb another request for tech support, using their address at support @ antivir .ru

    I have sent that address several tech support requests in the past few weeks, but they never answered any of them. Also they did not even acknowledge that they got them.

    DrWeb has an excellent product. However, they are NOT doing a good job of marketing and supporting their product. I hope this situation will improve soon.

    I will continue to use DrWeb for a few more days. Even if its virus signatures are a little out-of-date, I think we can depend on DrWeb's powerful heuristics to keep us protected. However, if DrWeb's tech support does not answer our messages SOON, I might decide to change to another AntiVirus program. :(

    Bill, I have never sent a query to the support address you posted. In the past I have always used support@drweb.ru which have always responded ( last one only 3 days ago). Further, I have posted a new support address in a previous post which Boris Sharov gave me.

    There have been some minor problems with the latest release but these should be ironed out very soon. Keep faith with the good Doctor!

    Support is one of the areas they are hoping to improve very soon. In my case support has been very good, particularly when it involves the CEO :D

    From Blackcat's post I understand that this version 4.32 that I am running will be replaced tomorrow.This new version will have a working updater.
    So,it's uninstall this version and install the 4.32a version?
    I don't mind that. ;)

    I found a site called Dr.Web LTD.(Link below)
    They did mention version 4.32 on that site.
    My question is this,
    What site(s) will have the 4.32a version tomorrow?

    http://www.drweb.com

    I just heard from Boris with essentially the same info as he sent Blackcat.

    It would really be nice if DrWeb's new tech support guru, Mike Kolyadko, might decide to visit us on this forum from time to time.

    Just received this information from Dr Web support;

    1. As regards the number of virus records;

    Dr.Web v.4.32 virus database
    --------------------------------------------------------------

    19.08.2004 v.4.32 released _/drw43201.vdb 364 virus records
    \drwebase.vdb 51982 virus records

    22.08.2004 at 23:57 MSK drw43202.vdb (+ 543 virus records)

    23.08.2004 at 17:32 MSK drwtoday.vdb (+ 19 virus records)

    --------------------------------------------------------------
    Total virus records by now (24.08.2004, ~03:00a MSK ) : 52908

    2. As regards the new version;

    "Well, you may uninstall the previous build of Dr.Web 4.32 and then
    install the newer one (as soon as it will be released).
    But you may simply use Dr.Web automatic update feature to upgrade
    the installed version."

    2 points that prey on my feeble mind are as fol...

    _/ 1- Did Mike mention the URL for downloading the upgrade?

    _/ 2- I would assume that either I must uninstall the prior version, or not. I would also assume that the automatic update cannot uninstall DrWeb in order to install the upgade. Ergo, I find Mike's response a bit confusing. Ah well, I am easily confused I suppose {or so my great-grandchildren tell me}. :p

    You will get everything through your automatic update. Even if one has Version 4.31.
    Best Regards

    I have the same number(53,132)for total virus number also.

    All the information in the "about" tab lists the version as 4.32.No 4.32a listed.
    So, I'm thinking that 4.32a hasn't been released yet and Dr.Web is updating 4.32 untill the newest version is released.

    Yeth!

    53132 sigs here, as others have.

    By the way, DRW's update log is in your DrWeb folder, filename DRWEBUPW.log. You can view it with Notepad.
