I don't know if I have a problem or if I am in overkill mode.
I have AVG (free version) loaded. I also go to the Trend Micro website and do the free scan. When this happens AVG, reports a file in the temp dir has Dropper.Small.FD. When I run AVG the temp file is gone and it finds nothing. Is this a problem or am I being paranoid?

    I ran ad-aware and spybot.

Here is the hijackthis.log. Any help or assurance would be appreciated.

You do have signs of a CWShijack so please do this
First download CWshredder from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk then Run it
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

and make sure you follow the advice about the security updates listed on the last page, in order to prevent re-infection, otherwise you will be continually reinfected
    the patches are :
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=828026
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/ms03-011.asp
*Note: The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates & service Packs"

THen reboot & post anew hijackthis log so we can check please

Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

Then I urge you to uninstall spy humter as it doesn't do what is says very well

instead use either Adaware or Spybot who are free

and empty all temp directories including temporary internet files
If the problem only happens while you are running a trend online scan, I would assume that it's a false positive and AVG is finding it in the trend scaning mechanism. But sometimes one Antivirus will find what others miss so doublecheck with additional scans

Run an online antivirus check from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites

I corrected the entries indicated and ran a2 from http://www.emsisoft.com/en/ (this is the replacement link for http://www.anti-trojan.net/en/onlinecheck.aspx).
It found nothing. I then ran the free version from housecall and got the same warning from AVG. Here is the log.

I have the option set to delete temp files when the browser is closed. I manually went in and deleted the cookies and did a restart before I ran the hijack this program.

How do I empty the cache and are there other temp folders I need to empty?

    Hi DeeJai,

The easiest way to do it is with IE closed, click start >> settings >> control panel >> internet options >> delete files, check delete all offline content, then click OK.

    Regards,
    Kent

OK. I cleaned out the temp files and cache, re-ran
AdAware, Spybot, Housecall and still got the warning from AVG.

Yes, the warning is from AVG only. It alerts on a temp file.

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\tmpfilename.

I saw this problem in another forum but they did not say how they fixed it.

start in safe mode instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\ select all files in the temp folder and delete them

as XP and probably W2K will not let you delete files less than 24 hours old as it thinks it might need them please also do this

while in the temp folder, select view and selct details.

then right click a blank part and select arrange icons by, and select show in groups and modified, that will give a list of all files in date order with today at the top of the page.

select all the files/folders except the today ones and delete them all.

I have already done this. The file name is not the same each time.

I have opened the Windows explorer and monitored the
temp directory and the file appears and disappears as the scan is running. The file is always gone when the scan is complete.

I forgot to add that I logged in using a different ID and ran the scan and the warning moved from my temp directory to the new user directory. I don't know if this helps in the detection or not.

Yes. I thought that maybe AVG was picking it up from something that Trend was doing but couldn't figure out why this was the only one it found.

All I can think of is that it must be a false positive in AVG

it has to be picking up something that trend is using to scan the files. It's either a genuine virus that only AVG picks up, that only appears when trend unpacks the file to examine it or it's a false alarm. I would tend to go for the false alarm as trend online is updated every few hours and would be likely to have more up top date definitions

This false positive problem does occur with frequently with AVAST and Panda online scan, but it's the first time I have heard of it with AVG and Trend

If you are convinced that this is a false reading and my log is clean, then I will move on and finally be able to remember what sunshine looks like. Should I post another log just to be sure?

I downloaded AVG trial version and it found the Trojan. The free version did not pick it up. It could not clean it so I did a manual remove of the file after I brought the computer up in SAFE mode. Thanks for your help with all the other stuff.
