Dr.Web CureIt! can now be updated and available free of charge for non-commercial use only

    October 12, 2009

With the renewed design of its www.freedrweb.com web-site the Russian anti-virus vendor Doctor Web starts providing Dr.Web CureIt! on a commercial basis unless it is used to cure a home PC of the user.

More than hundred thousand users make use of Dr.Web CureIt! on daily basis. Being a free curing tool for personal computers it has become widely popular.

The good news is that Dr.Web CureIt! remains free! But the option is available if you use the utility on your personal computer only. If you need to scan a computer at your desk or provide computer repair and system restore services using Dr.Web CureIt!, you will need to purchase a license.

More and more companies resort to the utility to cure their office desktops and servers when their installed anti-virus software fails and can't neutralize malicious objects.

From now on Dr.Web CureIt! is provided on commercial bases unless the user runs the utility on his home PC (http://freedrweb.com/cureit/buy/). Note that Dr.Web software is an object of copyright. Running Dr.Web CureIt! at home doesn’t bring your profit. However, free usage of the software on office machines with other anti-virus products installed is no longer available.

Dr.Web CureIt! Is NOT a free addition to anti-virus products from other vendors.

We hope you will agree that high-quality curing is worth its price.

Im a bit confused as how the licensing works.
im a computer technican and would like to be able to have an updatable cure it since i sort out infected computers quite alot.

can i purchase a 1 year license? and what is it likely to cost.

Maybe I'm missing something however, how do you update without downloading the program all over again? I tried to update and it is still the same way; the utility brought me to dr. web cure it website to download the program. So what has changed?

Dr Web Cure it still cannot be updated. You will have to download it all over if you want to scan with the latest signatures.

    Peace.

The licensing model stinks. o_O $25US for 30 days of use to clean 15 pc's is ridiculous when you can use Eset/F-Secure/Bitdefender/etc. online scans at no cost.

Also now it seems to run the full rather than the express scan as default.
    Anyone else noticed this?

Nope check setup_xp.ini in your\AppData\Local\temp\ dir perhaps you did a full scan with a previous version... DrW leave his traces and didn't crush the ini file just a guess. There is even a setup.key file ( plain text but who cares ;-)

Update: I just check again ( since usually DrW leaves just a single file in his temp after closing). The previous version ( I keep everything ^^ ) does a basic scan in system32, the last one goes deeper in system32 subfolders like \DriverStore\FileRepository. You can run two different versions concurrently btw...

    Worst bait I've seen.
Reading the whole announcement is even more unclear and ambiguous.

I guess DrWeb guys like to have their servers hammered by massive downloads instead incrimental upates. In the end only they would gain the most.
