Its full package is comprised of one file that can be saved to any location on the hard disk as well as on removable storage devices to directly run Dr. Web CureIt! on any PC and check it for malware agents. The advantage is that the tool does not create extra files on the disk or entries in the Windows registry. http://news.softpedia.com/images/extra/WINDOWS3/large/Dr.%20Web%20CureIt/Dr.%20Web%20CureIt%20interface.jpg http://news.softpedia.com/images/extra/WINDOWS3/large/Dr.%20Web%20CureIt/Dr.%20Web%20CureIt%20scanning.jpg https://st.drweb.com/static/new-www/screen/en_cureit_scr_005.1.png download https://www.freedrweb.com/download+cureit/gr/?lng=en
This is a useful tool. I used to use it quite a bit a few years ago for cleaning infected machines. Dr.Web really excells at detecting unwanted software, and quite probably does much better at this than any other antivirus. However, it needs to be considered that PUPs are not always bad, and there are times when you may not want to remove them. I've got plenty of PUPs on my main laptop, which I installed myself and use.
I just did a scan it flagged 13 IObit files all false positives. Also flagged my purposely altered Hosts file. Glad I Googled that otherwise Dr Web would zeroed out my Hosts file. Definitely not for novices.
IObit is a chinese product that has been denounced by numerous security firms over their practices in the past, doing things like stealing definitions for malware detection from the malwarebytes databases, promoting rogue system tuneup utilities and more. Take a look at their "partners" and you'll find that they're promoting some pretty nasty stuff. Here's one article regarding that kind of thing (basically using "scare ware" to increase revenue): https://shanegowland.com/tech/2012/iobit-is-distributing-malware-again/ https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53409020 https://www.avira.com/en/support-threats-summary/tid/143898/threat/Adware.IObit.jgpa http://www.antivirus-blog.com/removal-guides/remove-win32-adware-iobit-virus-removal/
I think everyone is aware of the issues with IObit and Malwarebytes, but their software is very good, and is continually being improved.
I concur. If there were proven free alternatives to IObit's Driver Booster, Uninstaller & Unlocker I'd give them a go. Revo Uninstaller is eh & Unlocker 1.9.2 free is ad-supported which ime doesn't work as well as IObit's. Ime there is no Driver updater that is as easy & dependable as IObit's.
