    Hi pavluv,

Are you using a download manager, and if so, which one?

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hai Pieter,
    Groetjes,Peter

    Hi Peter,

No offense, but the majority of our users does not read/write Dutch, so I hope you don't mind me answering in English. But yes, we have seen Star downloader interfere before.
Can you try disabling it when you update?

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,
sorry about the dutch, didn't realize that this is public.
When updating SG the StarDownloader is not active-I get the reply that I have the latest version.
But what has updating to do with the disabling of the downloadprotection in SG? Or do you mean that I cannot use SG and Star at the same time?
    Regards, Peter

I'm sorry. I went babylonic there.

I meant to write to disable Star Downloader and see if that cures the problem with SpywareGuard.
If we know for sure that this is the problem, Javacool may be able to work on a solution or we will find you a better download manager. :p

    Regards,

    Pieter

Ya, I already assumed there was another language
Anyway, you were right, when I disabled Star, I could download and afterwards the SG-settings were intact!
So what's next? Kill Star? Bit pity, çause on slow servers it comes in handy. Before Star I used DAP, but got a bit f*&cked-up with the persistant commercials..
    You know a good alternative?
    Thanks for the speedo-replies, anyway!!!!
    Kindest regards,
    Peter

For a change, I'm not wandering too far O/T, this is closely related.

Any history of conflicts with Real Download, which is my personal choice? So far I haven't had any problems with it myself, just wondered if anyone else did.

Things like Win Update download-and-install in one continuous operation, of course, you've no choice about that. But when I'm fetching with Real, I always select "Close" when it's done and then run the installer afterwards, usually after disconneting from the net.

    Thanks and best,
    Mike

    Hi Peter,

Yes. I was disappointed to hear that. Never had any problems with it.
There are no other ones I can really recommend out of first hand experience. Maybe someone else can?

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,
you did not answer my question about the downloadspeed- I would like to know if these managers are meant for 56Kmodems or also for a DSL connection.I think it is strange that my downloadspeed is higher WITHOUT the manager,or has it to do with settings?
    Regards, Peter

    Hi Peter,

There are more elements that influence the effective download-speed:
the server (obviously), if and how you tweaked your modem, firewall and probably more that I am not aware of.
I never felt the need to use the download manager much after getting DSL. For most downloads the difference would be seconds at most.
I recently tested when I was downloading a new version of Mandrake (3 full CD's) and even for those filesizes the differences could have been accounted for by what I was doing in the meantime ( surfing, fetching mail etc.)
I probably should add I was using Opera to do the downloads, since I have found it's a bit more reliable in case you have to restart a broken download.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,
thanks for the reply, it explains what I already assumed.
Last question: what is the difference between SG and SpywareBlaster? Is it usefull to add the second?
I have SpyBlocker which works fine with SG.
    Regards,Peter

    Hi Peter,

It never hurts to add SpywareBlaster. It does not need to run and protect against way over a thousand malicious programs to date and many more added every week.

One of my all time favorites. :)
I also use it as a knowledgebase when I analyze HijackThis logs.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,

Thanks for all your help and support, it's been great!
Good to know SpywareBlaster isn't running along, just as SG.
Still a bit sluggish, but no more conflicts.
    Keep up this good work!
    See ya,
    Peter :)
