I've carried out the instructions given to me by you so far, using Ad-aware 6.0 and HijackThis v1.97.7.

The problems I've been having include:

A message popping up constantly telling me I have Downloader Revop A in C:\DO.EXE (in AVG it tells me it's in C:\_RESTORE\TEMPA000(any number).CPY, which I can never find

Every time I try to access my Windows folder or the DO file it just goes back to the message telling me I have DL Revop A

System is running incredibly slow at times, and quite often when online a series of lines run down my screen immediately before it locks up. There is no way out of this but to do a full reboot.

When on a particular game site (Game Rival) I get so many pop ups (from 2 different ads) the same that just will not close and even start to download to my computer without me requesting it. I have since stopped visiting this site

More recently I've had the message that a third party has removed my N-Case file, whatever that is, and that I should click to re-install it which so far I haven't done.

    Here's my HijackThis log:

Reboot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Delete these files

    C:\DO.EXE

    and Delete these folders
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P NETWORKING
    c:\program files\altnet

    then
    Reboot normally &

Turn off system restore by following instructions here to get rid of these viruses ( C:\_RESTORE\TEMPA000(any number).CPY)

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001012513122239

That will purge the restore folder and clear any malware that has been put in there. Then reboot & then re-enable sytem restore & create a new restore point.

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R279 31.03.2004 or a higher number/later date

    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

Here goes - I carried out your instructions to the letter, and all went well apart from when it came to deleting C:\DO.EXE, C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH, and C:\_RESTORE\TEMPA000(any number).CPY.
I couldn't find any trace of these three.

Anyway, I have done everything else as described, here is the new HijackThis log:

    Hi Cosmic Cat,

You have one minor one that appeared and after you remove it you will be clean and good to go..

Check the following item in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

I think you must have missed this bit in my previous post

    to solve teh c:\restore\temp problems

Turn off system restore by following instructions here
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001012513122239

That will purge the restore folder and clear any malware that has been put in there. Then reboot & then re-enable sytem restore & create a new restore point.

you won't ever find the files by searching or be able to fix them in any other way

    Hi, [glow=red,2,300]dvk01 [/glow] and [glow=red,2,300]puff-m-d[/glow]

Well, I have just deleted the last thing that puff asked me to do, and still can't quite believe that I will now be free of the damn plague, lol.

But, I just wanted to say a HUUUUUUGE thank you - I think by now if it wasn't for you people I'd have no hair left! ;)

One last piece of advice if you will - are there any sites or anything in particular I should/shouldn't be doing to save myself any future problems?

    Thanks again - you're true stars! :-*

    Uh-oh...........me again, lol.

Since you last helped me I've downloaded SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard as extra security.

Have been trying to log into my MSN Messenger account, and get the following message:

We were unable to sign you in to .NET Messenger Service, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your Internet Connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet. 0x81000306

    Is this something I've done?

Grateful for any help you can give. Thanks
