    maddawgz,

Given the number of download managers available, perhaps you could give an indication of what features you are looking for? If it is just the ability to resume downloads, then your browser may have this ability already (Opera and Firefox do).

A good download manager can offer features like file mirror searching, segmented downloading (getting parts of a file from several different servers - useful only if the server capacity is restricting your transfer rate), batch downloading, virus scans on completed downloads, etc.

For spyware-free managers I would add GetRight to the list - it was the first one to ditch the adware (it did use Aureate/Radiate initially - see here for more details). It's "downside" is the number of options it offers - which can make configuration rather intimidating.

    I've been using Star Downloader.
It works better than Fresh Download with Opera and Firefox.
Star Downloader is free, has an av scan feature, and I haven't found any spyware in my Spybot and Adaware scans.
