HELP! I have a Gateway computer with Win 98 and I use IE6.0 for surfing. While surfing, the files listed in the subject line downloaded to my computer. I can't see them in the add/remove programs file and when I tried to right click and delete one (the Install2) I got a red x dialog box that said it couldn't be deleted because windows was using it. So now I'm scared to just delete them (I also get the warning message that says these are programs and if I delete them they may not work right. I found a another post from nihontochicken (see below) from with these same programs and how the thread showed how it was fixed.

I'm not very computer savvy when it comes to the computer. I need some
help! I've ran and re-ran Ad-Aware 6.181 and CWShredder making sure to reboot after running each one. Neither program found or deleted the programs. My Hijack log is below. Can anyone tell me how to fix this mess! Any help would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Linda

    Title: HijachThis Log

    Hi!

Per the moderator's instructions, here is my HijackThis log. I ran Spybot S&D on May 14, the most up-to-date version downloaded that day. I also ran Spywareblaster that day, after running Spybot. These were after an advisor ran PestPatrol on May 12, which failed to cure the problem, which returned May 14, just before I downloaded and ran Spybot and Spywareblaster. These programs also failed to cure the problem, which returned May 15, after which I also ran CWShredder on that date (CWS.Smartsearch was found and deactivated). So far the problem hasn't returned, but I am concerned about some suspicious Desktop icons that were installed on May 15 (see original post to this site following log). Thank you for any help you may be able to provide!

    Hi lsbeebe,

First, download and run: Peper uninstaller
The program needs internet access to finish.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    Download and run CWShredder
Use the Fix button and follow the instructions provided by the program.

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools <= entire folder
    c:\installer\id53.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\A.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\yjhfbb.exe

And (still in safe mode) use the DiskCleanup Tool to empty all your Temp folders.

When you are done, run HijackThis again and post the new log, so we can see if it all worked out as planned.

    Regards,

    Pieter
