    I am running Windows Vista and smart security stopped loading at boot. I now have to manually start it each time I boot my laptop. Does any one know how to get it to autoload at boot again? Thanks.

    Hi, you could try to set the service to autostart. Type services on your Start Menu and you will have the option to find ekrn.exe "Eset Service", once you've done that, double click and set it to automatic, then restart and see if it works. (do not confuse it with Eset HTTP Service, they are not the same)

    Of course if it already is in automatic then you could try to uninstall, delete al Eset folders, restart and try a clean install.

    It sounds like it has somehow been removed from the Run section of the registry. Is there any chance you have used a startup program and disabled it from startup?

    Apparently you are infected with variant of bagle virus. This type of virus has to disable the autostart of nod32. Try to clean your pc with a specialised tool like cureit.

    There is written only egui.exe. ;)

    It seems to me that if there is installed Bagle, then NOD can't be run although. And CureIt! isn't special tool, it's simple on-demand scanner. :)

    acoxofrd: Could you be more specific, please?

    Know nothing about Vista but is it not possible that you're tray icon is not showing up anymore but NOD32 is still active?

    It doesn't depend on Vista or XP. Icon in system tray is process egui.exe and AV engine is ekrn.exe. So, we need to know, if there is problem only with GUI or whole ESS.

    No problem with the gui. It will start once I click on the icon. The ekrn.exe is running and it seems to be working okay. It is possible I may have accidentally removed from start up, but not sure on that one because I don't remember messing with start up programs. I did go to services but don't actually see the ekrn.exe only eset http server and Eset service. Both are set to automatic, but when I reboot or start up the system Icon still doesn't populate the icon tray and I have to manually start it up. Sorry if I am not being specific enough or haven't given enough info. If you need more please let me know exactly what you are looking for and I'll try. Thanks for all the help so far.

    Open Notedad and copy this to it:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "egui"="\"C:\\Program Files\\ESET\\ESET Smart Security\\egui.exe\" /hide /waitservice"
    (If ESS is located in C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Smart Security)

    Save file as type all files under name "repair.reg" and run it, accept message. Give us the result.

    Lukas,

    That worked perfectly. I ran the repair, rebooted, and on the reboot I got a message windows has blocked a startup program (eset). I allowed and now no problems. Thanks for all the help everyone. Great answers.
