The thing about cracks is, clean or not, nearly all the time they are flagged as bad, simply because they are cracks.

I used to use, nowadays I wouldn't even think about it. It's not worth it. Cracked software is a security risk and usually more unstable compared to the non-cracked version.

And I won't even start about the moral side.

As it happens, there are cases when there are legitimate reasons for using cracks. The main reason for me will be trying to get an old game to be compatible with Windows 7, without having to mess around with VMs.

I'd agree for the most part they aren't worth it, but I've not had any trouble with 3rd party patches for older games. GCW tends to be a safer source. All the same, I run them in a restricted Sandbox - although usually without drop rights, again due to compatibility as older games tended to 'require' admin rights.

As for cracked software - what's even the point? For many general tasks freeware products are more stable, safer, faster, better supported - and free. Only fools run cracked security software (the last computer I saw had a cracked copy of Eset NOD32, and was riddled with infections).

No, I don't. Craks are risks for security, and anyway the developers and the software houses work selling their products. I don't want a stolen car, why I should want a stolen software ?

I've had to use a crack for legitimate reasons but it's still illegal I believe or at least against the TOS of the game (stupid DRM locked me out of a game I purchased.)

I think MSE probably picked it up as a virus and I ignored it.

Never have, nor will I ever.
Downloading and using cracked software is just asking for trouble.

if it's a keygen generator then i open with SBie.

i don't touch crack that replaces .exe

having said that, almost all my software are legit now, save 1 or 2 and i will buy license for them as soon as i can afford it.

over the years, i replaced all the pirated stuff i was using by paying for the stuff i use.
i think it is inportant to encourage the developers if you want a future for the product you like.

The problem with cracks is that they're often from untrusted sources. People will google "how to crack GTA4 (for example)" and click whatever they see.

If you get your software (and that includes cracks) from a trusted source it's no different than anything else you download.

    No way!
I would rather pay for software even if a crack isn't security risk.

Using cracks endangers the livelihoods of smaller developers and impacts upon research and development funding. As for the potential security implications...
Didn't vote as all the options imply I would consider using a crack.
