Do you use AppRemover?

Bought Revo Uninstaller Pro yesterday for 50% off. Love it so far. Just got done installing Trusteer Rapport with the RU logger set on. lt logged everything TR modified without a hitch.

I always do this. Avast! in particular seems to leave a lot of drivers behind.

Make sure you uninstall them and not delete them or you will leave their associated entries in the registry.

Also, this just takes care of their hidden drivers. You can "bet your booties" that there is tons of crub still in the registry that needs needs manual deletion. Hence the need for a good third party uninstaller. If you used Revo Unistaller Pro to install the software, it recorded and logged everything that software installed and/or modified.
