First one seems quite important. https://www.neowin.net/guides/do-these-five-important-things-after-installing-windows-11/
I still cannot understand why after all these years 'show file extensions' is not turned on by default.
My tip: Do this before installing Windows 11: add an `autounattend.xml` file to your installation medium. Generate it here. Method is supported by Microsoft. Saves you from painstakingly removing "apps" system wide after install (which still leaves traces behind). Can also apply various tweaks. Tested this in a VM and it works really well.
So true, this is wrong on all levels from Microsoft. People need to identify file types all the time. It feels so weird to me when hide file extensions is hidden.
Unfortunately the hidden file extensions are set per profile as well so it needs to be set for each user. I guess Microsoft is hoping you will get fooled by a file with a double extension.
I recall that in my early days, I used to rename files and by removing extensions, rendering them useless. It is better now, when you select rename, it ignores the extension, but people would change it by accident. My boss, whose job is mostly reading emails and attachments, literally fails to do so, because she does not understand extensions. She called me many time to open pdf, docx or pptx. And yes, she indeed renamed them sometimes.
