First off, what the heck is a "DMCA"? Why should it matter to me? Until recently, I'd never heard of it. Then I read this:
    http://www.tndf.net/
"...Do you use any kind of Internet security hardware or software (called a "firewall"), or does your company use networking equipment to share Internet access using network address translation (NAT), or allow employees to connect from home using a virtual private network (VPN)? Do you cryptographically sign or encrypt your email?...you can still go to jail for it..."
OK, now you have my undivided attention. In the news? Not much, or recently...http://news.com.com/2100-1028-994667.html. So, how did I miss what's going on with that? Any opinions from "Wilders.org"?

If the law grows to disallow privacy online - then we will no longer be allowed to use stuff like Javacool's software and proxo to keep the spam/spies out! To be honest - if this stuff grows to that extent then the internet will be as useless to me as it is to the family down the street from me who can't use the net at all because of those "darn popping up ads" and stuff... I mean the internet is barely usable overall without the protections we have in place... If my protections become illegal I will have to disconnect my machine from the net - it's FAR to valuable to leave unprotected and I'll hafta play single player games from there on... It would be like leaving my truck unlocked and the alarm disabled otherwise! Because everyone would have some kind of right to check under my seats to see what I had in there... Nevermind the consequences! ffs!

For the record - the neighbors refused my offer for help saying they could get it working :p

Apparently, this will be an ongoing thing for some time. That DMCA thing just popped up again in the news -
    "DirecTV dragnet snares innocent techies
In recent months the satellite TV giant has filed nearly 9,000 federal lawsuits against people who've purchased signal piracy devices. But some of those devices have legitimate uses, and innocent computer geeks are getting caught in the crackdown..."
