I have just moved from Firefox to Chrome, both sandboxed (SB-Plus Classic 5.55.20, 64 bit). I have a website that provides me with PDF reports that I would like to have displayed in my PDF app and not displayed embedded on the web page. How do I make Chrome immediately download and display these PDF reports? Thanks.
Display a PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro: Set 'Adobe Acrobat Pro' as default system PDF viewer. Open Chrome and go to following address: Code: chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments Select 'Download PDFs' Download a PDF file (Download bar will appear at the bottom of the window) Click up arrow (^) from there and select 'Always open with system viewer' If you want to clear or change the setting: Open Chrome and go to following address: Code: chrome://settings/downloads Click 'Clear' on 'Open certain file types automatically after downloading'
There's also an Acrobat plugin for Chrome (and Edge) that loads Acrobat in a browser window. Adobe Acrobat: PDF edit, convert, sign tools - Chrome Web Store (google.com)
Busy: Thanks for the detailed answer. I'm stuck here: Download a PDF file (Download bar will appear at the bottom of the window) Click up arrow (^) from there and select..... When I select download a PDF, the document opens and just appears in a new tab. I don't see a download bar nor an up arrow, so I don't see an option to 'open with system viewer.' What am I missing?
Goto Code: chrome://settings/downloads Click 'Clear' on 'Open certain file types automatically after downloading' Then try to set everything up once again as @busy already pointed.
Something like this should appear. If this is not the case, the site may be serving the PDF content in a different way.
Mr. X That helped some. The PDF still opens in a new window but when I hit download, I get the "save as" box. It would be nice to skip the display window and have it go directly to "save as"...... Other thoughts? Thanks.
Busy: When I tried your Google pdf test, same thing. It displays in the same tab and I can select the download button at the top. I don't get the dialogue box you pictured. Is Adobe Acrobat "inserting itself" here overriding Chrome?
Adobe is there. The "Details" note that it manages my downloads. I turned it off and now I get the right save dialogue box! Congrats and thanks for the help. What are the disadvantages of having this turned off? (You always have to wonder....) It's nice that it has an off switch.
It provides PDF editing, converting, signing etc. options. Code: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adobe-acrobat-pdf-edit-co/efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj
chrome do not need any "plugin" (plugins are not supported since years) or "extension". chrome can display PDF files by default, but currently afaik not to edit. EDGE is able to "edit", make annotations this kind of changes. full editing only in Adobe Acobat or PDF Exchange, Foxit or similar full featured software! since i have abandoned adobe software except PS decades ago, i dont miss their software. personally i use PDF x-Change Editor (paid)
