 I really was ready to bury the hatchet so to speak, but once again this product disappoints me. I do not wish to be relegated to having to use a scheduler to obtain the necessary updates, epically when I use dial-up and am not consistently connected to the WEB. I also think the option for indicating ones email provider could be much easier to understand and the option much improved. Nope this product once again disappoints me, and I will stick with the virus protection program that I was previously utilizing.

    Thanks

  2. I used Antivir for a few years, but this version is a dissapointment for me too.
Guess it was not ready for release yet.
Wich one will you use, Anitvir6 or another AV?

Err, you can manually run an update like before.... or tell it to update only on connect... or additionally on connect...

Actually I don't really know how you could miss the UPDATE button.... you don't need to use the scheduler

When it won`t be changed i will use another AV.
First i didn`t want to install.
Later it asked for for my location while i am not on a dialup but on cable.
I had update problems a few months ago when a new version of AV6 came out but that dissapeared.
So the update problem is not intirely new.
Hope the Germans will make it with german grundlichkeit again.
Don`t fix something if it aint broke.
Greetings from someone who likes Antivir

o_O Instructions on how to do this please! Also instruction on how to tell it to use POP for email scan and how to indicate your email service! These two were the reason I once again deleted AntiVir Classic from my system. I also agree if it ain't broke don't fix it. As I said I really am ready to bury the hatchet, but it is the little things that will bite this product in the behind.

    Thanks

No offense, but why you just not get a fast internet connection? I have seen that you are a VERY frequent poster in here, if you are using a dial up internet solution, that may cost a lot for you. I have a mediocre cable modem Internet solution shown in here in the post 42. and it costs only 29.50 $/month here in Finland.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=80778&page=2

After that AntiVir PE Classic 7 with the latest Beta scanning engine updates like a charm.

    Best regards,
    Firefighter!

:'( I have looked into everything that is available in my area, and while there are teaser rates to begin with, they go way out of my reach after that. I would be thrilled to get off dial-up, but my income situation just will not accommodate such a thing. The ISP provider I currently have is very good and affordable, but it is what it is.

    Thanks

Is my cable connection cost in Finland too much you have in your own country?

Btw, I'm retiring from my job very soon because of my illness very soon too! :(

PS. The F-18 Hornets what the yanks deliveled to us were making too huge noise to my ears, can you offer a good solution to this? :D

    Best regards,

    :D Hi Fiercat:

:cautious: The rate you indicate would fall into the teaser category around here. The average is around $40.00 and up per month. I pay $45.00 for three months, there are cheaper ones, but they really are not that good, and not that trustworthy either.

Ear plugs for the noise, and an alarm clock for the deaf in case your worried about not awaking from slumber, they work by shining a bright light in your face.

I wish you the best, believe me I know all about dealing with a handicap and illness.

I don't know if I will try AntiVir/Classic again or not, AVG "FREE" has worked well for me, and I am not so sure the switch would really accomplish that much difference. I however do see why people use it, and I really do not wish them bad.

    Thanks

Well now the problem seems how to get the updates.I update manually by pressing update, there is also an option to insert update job. This can be done immediatly, daily, weekly, interval ,and single.I can and have be useing command for free, but last week i switched back to antivir and it found 4 trojans.I will never trust that one again.I checked with Jotti and they were trojans.

IMO AVG Free is not so good, I recommend that you try Avast! Free edition. Maybe AntiVir will be updated with bugfixes, so you might want to wait around a bit. :)

40$ per month for what kind of connection? I get 1024/256 for around 25$ per month here in Slovenia. For 40$ i could get 8Mbit and even 10Mbit connection.

I've only had good experience with AntiVir 7, also with the beta's (apart from the lack of updates one time, due problems on the on-access shield, but it ain't a beta for nothing). If you don't like AntiVir, AVG doesn't seem like a logical choise to me.

Avast, has better detection, and smaller updates, with very fast servers...

I've got Antivir version 7 installed and it's been working with no problems. Updated from version 6,so I've been using their product for awhile now.

If I were to choose another freeware antivirus, I'd choose AVAST. AVG antivirus has missed too many viruses, malware, and trojans for anyone to even think about saying it's a "reliable antivirus" I've seen in countless tests that it performs well below other antiviruses. I have done tests with it myself and like it or not,AVG just isn't worth the time to download, free or not.

I'm paying $46 a month for 384/128 cable here in the southern US. Communications in this country is not always an open/competitive market.

Antivir 7 was supposed to eliminate huge downloads by going to incremental updates. Is this not the case?

Well i am impressed by AntiVir 7. It's a very fine piece of code.
Excellent GUI, finally very good updater, quarantine, heuristics ain't that bad either and we'll get Heur 2.0 quiet soon i belive (nothing official though).
Server was quiet fast, we'll see over time (never really had any serious problems with updating).
I can now easily recommend both, avast! and AntiVir 7. AVG has to do a lot of work to a catch up...

I´m a bit disappointed in resource usage, it feels slower than v6-on my system. That´s why I´m currently not using the realtime guard. It also has some minor GUI flaws. But the Update feature works a lot better. :)

Btw, no matter what I do I can´t seem to separate "v6" and "on my system" in the text above.

    Hi Firecat:

You are not alone in your opinion it would appear. After reading yours and the opinions of others (who I consider to be knowledgeable in these things) I have once again decided to give AVAST another try. I hope that it does not slow down the response on my machine, as it did in the past, but only time will tell.

I could not get the email option to work with the AntiVir one, and thus once again it bit the dust off my machine. Hay I gave it two tries in the past two days, and each time I encountered what I consider to be problems, my frustration level does not suite this product apparently.

    Thanks
    Wildman

Hey Wildman, why don't you just stop complaining about antivir and just use another solution? I have seen you in almost every thread on antivir 7 beta and all you do is complain, and complain, and did I mention complain?:D You need to move on to another product and just forget antivir. I did this with norton, and antihook, and zonealarm, but have you seen me flame these products, no!

Agreed, this 'wildman' should move to another free/paid AV solution.
His daily complaining of this free product is getting old.

This may or may not be - but let us try to remember we all have unique experiences and here at Wilder's we wish to refrain from personal remarks.

Wildman's experiences with this AV may not match those of others, and so be it. I do agree he has posted a lot of negatives about the product but I do not think he has "flamed" it either. Let's just try to keep that in mind as we move forward.

:D Sorry you all see it as complaining, I did say I didn't wish any who used it ill. I have stated many a time that I speak my mind and am blunt, and if none can deal with that, well as said in Gone with the wind, frankly my dear I don't give a damn. There are also individuals here at Wilders for whom I have a great deal of respect, and value their input, others I really could care less about. If I violate the TOS, I am made aware of it and I immediately stop, other than that not a chance. I hope this answers your questions. I have installed AVAST, so I guess I am moving on.

    Thanks
    Wildman
