If you open flash player, and tell it to not allow sites to store information on your computer, sites still appear to be saving flash cookies. What purpose does this setting serve?

When you block sites from saving Flash cookies, Flash can still save site-specific preferences in Flash cookies, but sites themselves can't save site-specific data in Flash cookies. It's kind of confusing. If you want to see the difference for yourself, try the test page in the thread that SweX mentioned with Flash cookies allowed vs. Flash cookies blocked, and notice the difference in which Flash cookies are set.
