When visiting the homepage of Emsisoft today I saw a malware alert with a risk level "high". While looking for details on http://www.emsisoft.de/de/malware/Adware.Win32.MyWebSearch_Toolbar-entfernen.aspx I noticed, that this high risk malware is from IAC Search & Media - the company behind ask.com (if you believe Wikipedia).
Avira claims IAC/ask is a truthworth company offering a service that they even recommend to their users (so Avira says it is a good replacement for the common search engines like Google or Bing) - Emsi tells the opposite and warns that at least one toolbars from IAC is malware. What do the experts within this forum think, who is right? Even if the current Avira toolbar is malware free - is there a chance that ask could online-update it later and replace the existing malware-free toolbar with a malicious one without any notice? Does the toolbar from the Emsi malware notification have a valid digital signature from IAC/ask? Is it reported as malware on Virustotal also?
