    I'M USING ACR DD 9.0.534.

AFTER RESIZING A PARTITION (XP SP2 INSTALLED ON THIS) I GET THIS MESSAGE AT THE END OF DEFRAGMENT:

"Some files on this volume could not be defragmented. Please check the defragmentation report for the list of these files"

THE LIST IS TOTALLY BLANK. THE DFRAGMENTATION PROCESS SEEMS TO WORK FINE, AS USUAL, BEFORE ENDING WITH THIS MESSAGE. NO OTHER REAL PROBLEMS ON THE SYSTEM, NO DATA LOSS AND ALL THE PROGRAMMS WORKING FINE.

I TRIED RAXCO PERFECTDISK AND ON THE ANALYSIS THE FRAGMENTED FILE WAS

    Metadata file C:\$Extend\$UsnJrnl:$J

I KNOW THAT XP DEFRAGMENTATION TOOL CANNOT DEFRAG ANY METADATA FILE BUT IT JUST CHECKS THESE FILES. MAYBE THAT'S THE REASON THE REPORT OF FRAGMENTED FILES WAS EMPTY. BECAUSE THESE FILES ARE NOT AS "VISIBLE" AS OTHER DATA BY WINDOWS.

SO I DID AN OFFLINE DEFRAGMENT WITH PERFECDISK. THEN AGAIN A NORMAL DEFRAGMENT WITH THE WIN TOOL. THE MESSAGE WAS DISAPPEARED.
BUT IT KEEPS COMING BACK VERY OFTEN. I THINK IT DEPENDS OF THE AMOUNT OF NEW THAT I CREATE OR I DELETE.

IDO NOT CARE ABOUT DATA, I HAVE MADE A BACKUP, BUT...

WHAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEMo_O WHAT CHANGES DD MADE AND THIS SYSTEM METADATA FILE IS BEEING FRAGMENTED MUCH MORE EASILY THAN BEFOREo_O??
    HOW CAN I FIX THISo_O?
IS MY DISK AS SAFE AS IT WAS OR I DO NEED A FORMAT AND A CLEAN INSTALL OF XPo_O

AS TIME PASSES AND I USE THE PC THE EXCESS FRAGMENTS OF THE FILE

    C:\$Extend\$UsnJrnl:$J

GROWS FAST. FROM 0 THAT IT WAS AFTER THE LAST OFFLINE DEFRAGMENT NOW IT'S ON 8. OF COURSE ACCORDING TO RAXCO PERFECTDISK 7. GENERALLY I TRUST PPERFECTDISK. AND NOW I'M WONDERING IF A FILE IN A LITTLE HOURS IS BROKEN INTO MANY PIECES WHAT WILL HAPPEN FINALLYo_O THE WHOLE DISK VERY SOON WILL BECOME FRAGMENTED IF I DO NOT USE PERFECTDISK'S OFFLINE DEFRAGMENT.

I TOLD YOU I 'VE SAVED MY DATA BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. IT'S SUPPOSED THAT ACRONIS DISK DIRECTOR AND TRUE IMAGE HELP YOU AVOID FORMATTING, NOT THE EXACT OPPOSITE!!!!

AT LEAST WHEN YOU WANT TO DO STH, LIKE PARTITIONING, AND YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO FORMAT FIRST YOU CAN PLAN WHEN, FREE TIME IT'S GOLD TODAY.

AND WHAT IF I HADN'T HEARD OF RAXCO PERFECTDISKo_O IF I WAS A START USER ON THIS STUFFo_O PROBABLY I'D WAKE A MORNING, OPEN THE PC AND THEN READ AN ERROR MESSAGE ABOUT MY DISK!!!!
AND NOW THAT I KNOW THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO BUY ANOTHER SOFTWARE, AS PERFECTDISK IT'S ONLY A 30 DAY TRIAL.

PLEASE ANSWER IS THERE ANYWAY TO FIX THIS WITHOUT FORMATTINGo_O?

Sorry for SHOUTING, I didn't know that using upper case on a forum means that. A friend told me this right now. Sorry again.
