Hi , I am not a guru but I am prety fair with installs and stuff so I am gonna ask this question and hope for a simple concise answer . I have xp installed on my pc now and I want to install vista running build 2160 of acronis dd . Now if I install vista is it gonna wipe out my xp or is it going to install properly and then acronis pick up on the new vista install as well as retain a menu selection for my xp . I do know how to create a new primary partition on drive 0 . I just don't want my xp install hosed . Any guidance will be appreciated .

    Thanks , GoldBerg

You need to create enough free space in the XP partition (or use another drive) for Vista to install. Should be 30 or 40 Gigs or more. Now boot to the Vista CD and it will install to the free space and set up a boot menu for you. Nothing to it. XP will still work fine.

Thanks for the reply Rich , but when you say it will set up a boot menu for me, do you mean Vista will or OS selector will ? I'm wanting OS selector to be my boot menu . I already have 2 XP's and a win98 installed so now I want to add vista and still access them all thru OS selector . Thanks again .

You will probably have to reactivate OSS after installing Vista.

Also, remember if Vista sees any XP partition it will attach it's boot files there. The XP partitions should be hidden prior to installing Vista if you don't want that to happen.

You may need to "super-hide" the XP partitions. That option is in the Advanced section of the settings for the OS.

Well , just wanted to thank you guys on your advice . I installed vista and all is fine . os selectlor shows both my xp installs and my vista install and all work perfect . Before I installed vista I forced hiding partitions on each xp partition . I then made the vista partition active before disabling os selector even tho that partition was not bootable . So I then installed vista and after it was all set up I put in my bootable acronis dd10 cd , booted to it and reactivated os selector . Rhen when I rebooted os selector showed my 2 xp installs and the new vista install . they are completely isolated and no problems . Also I'm not sure why so many people are having all these problems upsizing , downsizing , and merging partitions with dd10 . I have done all of these things and it works like a champ for me .In fact I had to downsize both my xp partitions to make enough room for the new vista install on the 3rd partition . I can't help but believe somebody is in to much of a hurry and not reading enough beforehand to avoid the don'ts and follow the do's . In fact I would guess 98 % of all these problems here are simply operator errors . I'm not a guru but I find acronis dd10 to be a great product . Just don't put your horse before the cart and a lot of these problems of your own making could be avoided . I asked questions and people were kind enough to answer and as a result all is well here . Thanks again for the help . It was much appreciated and now I'm a happy camper ;)

I never get this to work... Vista just wont be recognized by OSS.
How difficult it can be to get OSS to recognize Vista?

Could it be so that it is again NOT VISTA COMPATIBLE? How frustating.

Hello Ongl-I have the same problem. It seems that both products are still incompatible with Windows Vista. I have made sure that Acronis is aware of this problem. I talked to an Acronis Tech via Phone today(5/1/07) and he stated that the problem is being worked. I told him about the numerous forum members who are having the same problem. Lets hope the problem is resolved in the next few weeks.
